Early development

Basketball is a unique sport in comparison to other games. The history of any sport's early development is often shrouded by myths or conjecture. Games traditionally grow in a slow, sporadic manner, and early interest in basketball is generally localized. Basketball's invention is far more widespread than people realize. The sport is played in every state within a matter of years.

Rules

There are some fundamental basketball as a sport rules that all teams must follow. The ball must remain in bounds throughout play. The ball must not be tipped or thrown out of bounds. Players who dribble with the ball must ensure that their hands are on the top. Players who touch the bottom must stop dribbling the ball. Once they cross the half-court line, players on offense can't enter the backcourt. Rules govern how many players can be on the court at once and allow for substitutions. Players cannot pass or dribble the ball. A player cannot move the ball with one hand if they have two hands. They must either pass the ball or shoot it.

African American players

The NBA has been known to shun African American players in the past. This myth has helped to obscure the African American influence and preserve the favorite stereotypes of white fans. But, with the emergence of talented African Americans, NBA has begun to embrace this African American aesthetic. Players such as Larry Bird or Michael Jordan have helped transform the game. The African American aesthetic is a combination of deceptive flair and individual creativity as well as positional versatility.

Misogynistic portrayal of women's basketball

Kaplan Hecker's and Fink's recent independent reports criticized NCAA's misogynistic portrayal for women in basketball. The authors discovered a "massive, calcified bed, large enough to support a Mark Emmert-style museum installation." Despite these findings, the NCAA will likely continue to promote women's basketball and its misogynistic portrayal of it as a sport.
